DAGENHAM & Redbridge boss John Still labelled Tuesday night’s 5-2 defeat at the hands of Aldershot as one of the worst performances of the season.

The Daggers clawed their way back to level twice, but the team failed to learn their lesson and, when they fell behind for a third time, the wheels came off.

Captain Mark Arber, returning from injury, made no mistake with a penalty to cancel out Anthony Charles’ opening goal. Seth Ofori-Twumasi stepped up to equalise again for the hosts after Andy Sandell’s volley had seen the Shots reclaim the lead.

However, goals from Marvin Morgan, Marlon Jackson and Louie Soares completed an embarrassing evening for Dagenham, which sees them clinging on to fourth place and lying five points off the pace being set by Rochdale in League Two.

After witnessing the second-half demolition, Still was critical of his team. “I thought we looked a little bit disjointed. I thought the discipline we usually play with was missing. In fairness to them, they played very well and we've had two very poor games this season, away at Barnet and this result against Aldershot.”

Problems with injuries and departures has forced Still to dip into the loan market, and he feels the situation is not helping the club’s cause.

“The loan situation hasn’t helped us, people haven’t settled in. I hate bringing in loan players but that’s our situation at present. We need to do some more work with these lads.”

Dagenham & Redbridge travel to struggling Grimsby Town on Saturday.
