IT SEEMS like the only way Waltham Abbey will get to play a game of football this week will be to hit the road and go away from home.
Two games in a row have fallen victim to adverse conditions at Capershotts.
But this Saturday’s journey looks set to be a tough one because waiting to take on the Abbotts will be Dartford, who currently stand at the summit of the Ryman League Premier Division table.
First of all, last Saturday Abbey were denied what could be their best chance of three points during a tough campaign when the game against rock-bottom Bognor Regis had to be postponed.
Then, on Tuesday, Abbey’s cup clash with Bowers & Pitsea in round four of the Essex Senior Cup suffered the same fate.
That game is set to go ahead, weather permitting, on December 15.
This weekend’s contest will see Abbey boss Glen Alzapiedi pit his players against a Darford side which has lost just a single game this season.
They are runaway league leaders while Abbey stand third-bottom of the table.
The visitors can take heart from the fact that Dartford’s sole loss came in their last league game.
Meanwhile, in Ryman League Division One North, Waltham Forest will be gunning for three more points on Saturday to build on last weekend’s 2-0 win away at bottom club Harlow Town.
That result ended a run of six games without a win and now boss Phil Miles will have his eye on another victory against fourth-bottom Cheshunt.
The Stags have sunk to the lower reaches of mid-table and will want to fire themselves back towards the top.
In the same division Leyton are also desperate for a win.
New boss Ivan Persuad is yet to record his first win and goals are in short supply. They host Potters Bar Town keen to climb out of the bottom three.
Last weekend, Brentwood beat them 1-0, but Leyton might be relieved to have avoided a repeat of the previous week’s 8-0 scoreline.
