LEYTONSTONE boxer Philip Bowes blitzed his way to the final of the National Amateur Boxing Championships with a resounding semi-final victory last week.
Bowes, dubbed ‘Quicksilver’, will come up against Liverpool boxer Terry Needham in this weekend’s final, to be held in Nottingham, after cruising to a points win over Hermon Qadir.
Many predicted Tunbridge Wells boxer Qadir would provide a stern challenge to Bowes, but the local puncher encountered few problems on his way to a 14 points to two win.
The Repton Amateur Boxing Club fighter had previously been crowned London North East champion after stopping Danny Hart inside four rounds. He then became London Under 20 bout king when he defeated Jim Garton. Jon Vance was his victim in the last 16 of the national competition, before getting the better of Navy champion David Harrison.
