Orient finally got 2010 rolling tonight and won a precious three points against Yeovil Town.

It was a great start to the year after three aborted attempts, as top scorer Scott McGleish picked up where he left off with his goal, a cosy header on 80 minutes.

Earlier, Tamika Mkandawire had opened the scoring on 17 minutes, with a low shot that bounced off the foot of each post on the way in past Alex McCarthy in goal for Yeovil.

And Orient fans also got to see their new striker Jonathan Tehoue.

A powerfully built and athletic figure, the Frenchman's introduction on 79 minutes and his flashes of quality close control galvanised Orient, so that soon this tie was settled by his striking partner, the veteran McGleish.

Orient boss Geraint Williams gave also starts to new faces Micky Adams in midfield, on loan from Leicester, and Fulham youngster Matthew Briggs in defence, in for the banned Ben Chorley.

Adams has big boots fill after Andros Townsend, who made his mark from the wing during the first half of the season and today is on loan at MK Dons.

But Adams showed he could what it takes with doses of skill and an eye for the early cross from the right wing.

On five minutes he cut inside from the right wing and rounded his marker. But his cross to the far post was over-hit.

Orient dominated the opening spell and Tamika Mkandawire opened the scoring on 14 minutes.

He resembled a winger himself as he jinked about at the edge of 18 yard box and then unleashed a low shot.

Yeovil keeper Alex McCarthy stood watching as it whisked past him onto the foot of the far post and then behind him onto the other post and then over the line.

Minutes later, Adams must have thought he had opened his account.

But his low struck effort from Scott McGleish's neat lay-off after a quick break down the left flank, was blocked by a diving Yeovil shirt.

Orient dominated the first half without looking very threatening against a Yeovil side which did not offer too much of a threat Jonathan Obika for Yeovil tested Jamie Jones with a long range effort on 25 minutes, soon after a nervous spate of last ditch defending by Orient when Adams lost possession and conceded a corner.

But it was Orient who put often put themselves under pressure by giving away free kicks inside their final third, which Yeovil squanderd with wasteful powder-puff shooting.

Adam Chambers was a fiesty presence in midfield in the first half and he did well near half time to stick a leg in and dispossess Kieran Murtagh as he slalomed his way into the area.

The pattern repeated in the second half, as Nathan Jones pinged a long range effort just past Jones' far post from the left wing, after he beat Nicky Adams in the tackle.

Orient rarely look totally comfortable when they are ahead and so it was tonight.

But on this cold evening the hosts warmed up courtesy of Adam Chambers and Ryan Jarvis as they each warmed the gloves of McCarthy with efforts from each side of the box. However, Orient rarely looked commanding and the fans ire rose with each spell of Yeovil pressure on the flanks. Chants of 'Come on Orient' rolled off the stands and onto the field to extol the troops.

The entrance of Jonathanm Tehoue on 75 minutes for Jarvis had just that effect. His sprint to chase down a lonhg dead ball sparked a fine phase of play by Orient which led to a corner.

From that, McGleish rose highest to head past McCarthy and double the advantage on 80 minutes.

A rousing start to 2010 and league win number seven. Orient did not look like relegation material tonight, Jones, Purches, Mkandawire, Chambers, McGleish, Thornton, Demetriou, Daniels, Jarvis (Tehoue 75), Briggs, Adams.

Subs: Morris (GK), Ashworth, Melligan, Tehoue, Cave-Brown, Smith, Scowcroft..
