DAGGERS boss John Still admitted he was ‘delighted’ to guide the club into the League Two play-off places for the first time in their history after a ‘nervy’ 2-0 victory over Darlington on Saturday.
The win secured seventh place for Dagenham & Redbridge and a play-off semi-final against Morecambe, the first leg to be played at Victoria Road next Sunday, with the return match taking place the following Thursday.
Jon Nurse’s header from Danny Green’s corner gave the Daggers a 31st minute lead to ease the visiting team’s nerves.
The points were made safe 15 minutes from time when striker Josh Scott turned home a Nurse cross.
“It was a nervy day, but away from home in difficult conditions for both teams we’ve run out good winners,” said Still. “I’m delighted to have won and got something that is really important for us.”
The manager admitted he was looking forward to the Morecambe clashes, with the hope of winning a place at Wembley on Sunday May 30 against either Rotherham or Aldershot.
“We’ll go into the two games and hope we can push on and get to the play-off final,” he added. “We’ve had two tough games with them (this season) and there was nothing in those games. We know each other well and whoever we get, we get. I’m looking forward to the game.
“We make progress here every year and we’ve made progress again, let’s hope we make a little bit more.”
