THERE were two friendly defeats this week for Dagenham & Redbridge ahead of the club’s historic first season in League One.
On Tuesday night, John Still’s side lost 3-2 at Bromley of the Conference South.
The Daggers fielded a team missing many first-team regulars, and were 2-0 down inside half an hour.
Youngster Steven Demetriou had a hand in each of the goals which Dagenham hit in reply.
A Will Antwi header on 31 minutes from his corner kick halved the arrears going into the second half But the fightback was thwarted by the hosts’ third goal on 61 minutes, past keeper Chris Lewington.
Demetriou reduced the arrears with a deflected free-kick three minutes later, but Bromley held on for the win.
That result followed Sunday’s match at Dartford, newly promoted into the Conference South.
Again, Daggers were two goals behind inside 30 minutes.
Luke Wilkinson carved out two chances, as the visitors went in search of an equaliser.
He forced the keeper to turn his effort on to the bar, and then headed just wide from the resulting corner.
The pressure paid off on 42 minutes when Lee Wooton found the net when he got his head on the end of Darren Currie’s free-kick But the contest was settled by ex-Dagger Ollie Berquez’s goal on 75 minutes.
Meanwhile, Daggers’ friendly against Grays Athletic has been cancelled.
Dagenham's next game is at Dorchester Town on Saturday.
