DAGENHAM & Redbridge were given a major boost this week when two of their star players from last season’s historic promotion campaign put pen to paper on new three-year deals with the club.
Danny Green and Scott Doe both played pivotal roles in the Daggers’ ascension into League One, via the play-offs, and have now committed their long-term future to the club.
Green, in particular, was the fulcrum of Dagenham’s promotion push, playing a hand in many of the team’s goals as they stormed into the play-offs, even netting the second goal at Wembley during the 3-2 victory over Rotherham.
It was that sort of form that gave rise to speculation that the winger may be lured away from Victoria Road by some of League One’s bigger teams.
However, manager John Still has successfully convinced the 22-year-old that his future lies in Dagenham.
Green’s contributions down one end of the pitch were perhaps matched by team-mate Doe at the opposite end.
Drafted in initially as a full-back, the 21-year-old was forced to form a makeshift partnership with captain Mark Arber in the centre of the Daggers’ defence, following an injury to previous incumbent Will Antwi.
And, despite his slight frame, Doe was a tower of strength at the back last season, and Still has wasted no time in tying him down to a long-term deal with the club.
Antwi’s recent recovery from injury may see Doe deployed as a right-back this season.
This week also saw the arrival of defender Duran Reynolds from Southend United, who signed a three-year deal with the club.
Meanwhile, Dagenham have enjoyed a successful pre-season so far, chalking up a noteworthy 1-0 victory over Norwich City last week.
New signing Gavin Tomlin has hit the ground running, scoring the only goal of that game to take his tally to three goals ahead of the new campaign.
His personal total was brought up to five with two goals in the 3-1 win over Wealdstone on Monday. Josh Scott grabbed the other, while Jon Nurse netted in the 1-0 win over Staines at the weekend.
