DAGENHAM & Redbridge will make history today when they step out to face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough for their first-ever game in League One.

The Daggers head into the game – and the season – as massive underdogs and among the favourites to be relegated straight back to League Two.

But John Still has bolstered his squad with a number of new faces during the summer and has managed to keep hold of the core of players that took the team to their fairytale promotion via the play-offs last season.

Wednesday will pose a stern test to Dagenham, as they are one of the heavy favourites to bounce straight back into the Championship, having been relegated on the final day of the last campaign.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams, and many believe it will be an easy three points for the hosts.

However, with all of Daggers' key men fit and available for selection, it is not inconceivable that there could be an upset on the first day of the new season.

Paul Benson will lead the line for Dagenham, possibly alongside Gavin Tomlin, who has impressed in pre-season after arriving this summer.

The midfield is likely to comprise of Peter Gain, Romain Vincelot, Jon Nurse and Danny Green, who set League Two alight last term.

Mark Arber may resume his partnership at the back with Will Antwi, who was absent for a large chunk of last season through injury. Scott Doe and Abu Ogogo will compete for the right-back slot, while Damien McCrory is likely to play on the left, with Tony Roberts in goal.
