WITH just one day to go until the big kick-off, football fans up and down the country are beginning their 'who will go up' and 'who will go down' debates.
We, on the sports desk, are no different, so here are my thoughts on who will do what in League One this season.
Dagenham & Redbridge, still on a high from their fairytale promotion last season, will face some stern opposition this term, and survival will be the order of the day for John Still and his men.
Southampton have been installed as clear favourites for the title and seem a shoo-in for promotion. They are likely to be rivalled by the three teams that have dropped out of the Championship, Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth Argyle and Peterborough.
However, there is always one or two surprise packages, and Notts County, who stormed to the League Two title last season, have plenty of momentum behind them. MK Dons have been knocking on the door for some time and will contend, while Swindon will be desperate to go one better than last year, when they were beaten in the play-off final by Millwall.
As for the battle at the bottom end of the table, Exeter and Tranmere are likely to struggle, while newcomers Rochdale will also be candidates.
In my opinion, Dagenham will survive and cause one or two upsets along the way. I'm predicting a 15th place finish for the Daggers, with Still having invested wisely so far in the summer, as well as keeping hold of the team's core that made history last year. The youngsters in the team have another year's experience under their belt, and the older campaigners provide a good mix of ages.
So, that being said, here are my top three and four relegation predictions.
Champions: Southampton.
2nd: Sheffield Wednesday.
Promoted via the play-offs: Charlton.
Relegated: Exeter, Tranmere, Rochdale, Oldham.
