THE new manager of non-league Leyton had no choice but to eject players from his all-new squad, he insisted.
Gordon Boateng has already given four players their marching orders from the Ryman One North strugglers.
Boateng has moved fast ahead of next Monday’s crunch bottom-of-the-table clash with Redbridge.
The purge was sparked by the recent painful, if predictable, 8-0 defeat to high-flying Needham Market.
Boateng branded 'fair' the early dismissals.
Now Monday cannot come soon enough for him.
The Market match has been the one fixture of his tenure not wiped out by freezing conditions.
“It’s frustrating for me,” Boateng admitted.
“I need the chance to look at players, but there’s nothing we do can in the current weather.
“We cannot move forward. We’ve had training on the pitch and it was a nightmare.
“I spoke to the board about the Market result and they were realistic about it,” he said.
“They do not expect miracles when the club has won just one game all season.
“There were some players who did not do the jobs I asked of them, so they have left the club.
“It’s harsh but fair, you could say,” Boateng added.
The manager is now in the market for a midfield general figure and also a centre-back.
Leyton’s home game last weekend with East Thurrock United also fell victim to the weather.
Elsewhere, there was no action either for Waltham Abbey and Waltham Forest.
Now Abbey gear up to travel to Potters Bar Town next Monday.
Forest are due to host Wingate & Finchley on the same day, but not at Wadham Lodge.
The much delayed relocation has now been put on hold by a government probe into the terms of a lease for the complex in Kitchener Road.
A club spokesman said: “The lease that (the owner) Wadham Lodge Trust propose to issue to (the tenant) Match Day Centres is currently with the Charity Commission.
“This is because the Trust is a registered charity, so the Commission needs to be satisfied the lease satisfies their criteria.”
It means Forest could be forced to stay at Cricklefields in Ilford for the rest of the season.
Lawyers for Match Day Centre are working hard to speed up the process, the spokesman added.
