ORIENT comfortably lead this League One tie with goals by Scott McGleish and Dean Cox, to help get reignite the misfiring push for a play-off place.
Under pressure after recent poor displays, Scott McGleish settled early nerves by heading Orient in front, on five minutes. The hosts coolly turned up the pressure on deep-lying Plymouth: Cox crossed deep to the far post from the left, Jimmy Smith nodded back into the mixer and McGleish guided his looping effort in at the far post. 1-0.
The advantage was doubled on 13 minutes by Cox himself. Orient underlined their dominance when Alex Revell stormed clear of Stéphane Zubar and then ignored the voice in his head that was doubtless screaming at him to shoot, by putting in Cox; who collected possession and calmly slotted under keeper David Button.
The story of this half was of how poor Plymouth were. The south coast side played like a side resigned to their fate, with zero cohesion and enormous vulnerability to an incisive pass. They were shockingly exposed on the break too, when foraging tentatively forward in search of something in this game.
A third goal was on the cards on the half hour mark from one such break. Stephen Dawson and Alex Revell were speeding up the pitch, but Dawson strayed an inch offside. That was as good as it got for Revell, who left the pitch grimacing on a stretcher on 40 minutes.
In sad scenes, Revell quit the action after collapsing unchallenged and going down gripping his knee on 40 minutes. Jonathan Téhoué replaced him.
O's' stopper Jamie Jones hardly got his kit dirty as Plymouth were toothless, save a brief spurt near half time. Defender Adam Barrett was forced into a far post clearance from Yannick Bolasie's cross from wide left. But tellingly, no Plymouth player was there was meet the pass. The visitors found some cutting edge and enjoyed some possession, which the Orient soaked up comfortably.
Orient should certainly end their four game-long wait for a win, this evening. No excuses.
