DAGENHAM & Redbridge have slipped back into the relegation places in League One as their see-saw battle against the drop intensified this week.
John Still’s men slumped to a 2-0 defeat at home to Peterborough on Tuesday night which was their third straight reverse.
Exeter City left it late to overturn a one-goal deficit to sink the Daggers on Saturday, just four days after league leaders Brighton had come away from Victoria Road with a single-goal victory.
All is not lost for Dagenham, however, as a massive bottom-of-the-league six-pointer is on the agenda this weekend, as Notts County make the trip to east London.
County sit just one place and one point above the Daggers on the dotted line, with the local side occupying the final relegation spot.
Three points on Saturday would give Still’s troops a major advantage in the survival scrap, with games over fellow strugglers Tranmere Rovers and Plymouth Argyle still to come in the coming weeks.
On Tuesday, an early David Ball brace sucked the wind out of the hosts’ sails as promotion-chasing Posh eased past Dagenham.
Ex-Dagger Craig Mackail-Smith played in Ball after just three minutes and he planted his shot past Tony Roberts.
Five minutes later and the game was won, Ball benefiting from a kind bounce in the box that fell his way and he made no mistake.
There was very little to speak of in terms of chances down the other end, as the Daggers struggled to impose themselves.
At the weekend, it seemed as if the team were heading for a precious away win at St James’ Park against the Grecians.
Midfielder Romain Vincelot acrobatically turned home Peter Gain’s knock-down from a corner with just 15 minutes to play to seemingly win the game for the Daggers.
But Richard Logan came off the bench for Exeter to grab the winner with a header at the back post three minutes from time, after Matt Taylor had nodded into the far corner for the leveller.
