Following an impressive comeback from Julia Lawes at the 17th hole, Chigwell Golf Club were crowned county bronze team champions as they defeated Channel in their final match of the season.
Lawes’ comeback last Friday came after impressive performances from team-mates Andrea Partridge, who won 6-4, Denise McKenzie, winning in 8-6 and Julia Chew in 5-4.
With Chigwell needing just a point to secure victory, all eyes were on Lawes as she closed in on the final few holes.
Coming from two holes down, she drew level on the 17th, then subsequently secured victory on the 18th.
As the remaining matches were called in and halved, the ever loyal Chigwell support celebrated as their club were crowned champions.
Michael Evitt was the winner of the Division One Woodford Golf Club August monthly medal at the weekend.
Evitt, the Division One winner currently playing off a handicap of five, registered the lowest gross score of 75.
Behind him in second position was 11-handicapper Bill Tyzack, with gross 81, while Mark Rowley took third.
It was a far closer affair in the Division Two event, with Roger Newman pipping Dave Rowell to the title by just one shot. Kevin Sullivan came third, despite recording the highest score in the division.
In the mixed event the following day, former captains Mark Deeming and Jackie Shafier took home the Miss D E Trophy after they defeated Zekia Alsanjak and Helen Leggett with 38 points.
