There were a mixed set of results for Aldersbrook Bowls Club, who recovered from a poor start in the Redbridge Afternoon League by finishing the rest of the week unbeaten.

The game against South Woodford was largely one to forget for Aldersbrook as they suffered two defeats out of two, with Joe Staggs’ rink of John Plunkett, Brian Gediking and Peter Chikes losing 23-12 to Peter Bareham’s team. Len Kerridge’s rink of Tony Hall, John Lapping and John Williams also lost 18-14 to Eric Walker’s rink.

Aldersbrook’s performance against Aveling Park in the Foresters League was much improved.

In the away rink, Martin Plumb, Peter Chilkes and Steve Plastow won 16-14 to T Willis and Joe Staggs’ rink, while Gordon Scrivener and Alan Stock were beaten 21-19 to C Greaves.

In the home rink, the Jerry Quy rink of John Plunkett and Tony Peak won 21-14 to K Trower’s rink and John Williams’ rink of John Lapping and Tony Hall won 23-10 to O Tenic, giving Aldersbrook the overall 12-3 win.

Their mixed form continued into Wednesday in WEEL against Goodmayes as Aldersbrook narrowly secured the victory.

Gary Gray’s team of Tony Hall and Ian Foote drew 15-15 to J Arrowsmith’s rink, with Eddie Townsend’s team of Steve Plastow and Brian Gediking lost 25-20 to R. Mansell.

But Jerry Quy’s team of Joe Staggs and Martin Plumb won 24-12 to E Wade, giving Aldersbrook a 59-52 shots advantage and 4-3 win overall.

The weekend was a much better affair for the club, with Aldersbrook facing Hainault away in the Ilford and District League.

Jerry Quy’s team of Barbara Reed, Alfie Cooke and Tony Peak won 29-16 to E Glean, while Joe Staggs' team of John Plunkett, Annette O’Donnell and Peter Chilkes drew 13-13 to B Hicks.

Although Eddie Townsend’s rink of Tony Hall, Ron Seabrook and Brian Gediking lost 21-16, Aldersbrook sealed the overall win of 58-50 shots, securing six points to three.

Their best performance of the week came on Sunday as they beat Wanstead Central at home in the Redbridge Afternoon Mixed League.

Marion Bond’s team of Tony Hall, Marie Sharp and Con McGlynn defeated Barbara Barr’s team 24-15 and Peter Chilkes team of Dot Mardle, Pat King and John Plunkett won 18-16 to H Seabrook.

As a result, Aldersbrook ended the week on a high, taking all six points.
