Aldersbrook Bowls Club players were in cup duty this week and will be pleased with their overall performance as they came away with the Jubilee Cup.
On Monday evening the club travelled to Wanstead Central to participate in the Cordell Cup semi-final against Barking.
It was a tight game on all three rinks and Ian Foote’s team of Ron Seabrook, Steve Plastow and Jerry Quay started badly and fell to a 19 – 24 loss against Bob Jarrold’s team.
Despite the shaky start Aldersbrook were level when Gary Gray’s rink of John Plunkett, Alan Stock an Stan Copp won 21 – 20 to Jim Aiton’s side.
The match was turned around when Eddie Townsend’s team of Tony Hall, Brian Gediking and Joe Staggs won 23 – 14 to Bill Warbey.
The final result gave Aldersbrook overall victory of 63 – 58 shots and go forward to the final.
Friday night the club returned to Wanstead Central who was this year’s hosts for the Final of the Churchill and Jubilee cups. In the Churchill cup Wanstead Central’s Paul Whellams beat Jerry Quy of Aldersbrook.
In the Jubilee cup Aldersbrook took on Woodford. On rink one Gary Gray’s team of Ron Seabrook, Brian Gediking and Eddie Townsend lost 14 – 17 to Les Corder’s men.
On rink two Ian Foote’s team of Tony Hall, Joe Stags and Tony Ruston won 24 – 19 to Keith Riley’s team giving Aldersbrook 38 to 36 shots overall win and take the trophy.
