Pupils at George Mitchell School were able to test out their basketball skills when the school played host again to a basketball camp throughout the summer period.
The camp aims to improve the children’s skills while teaching them to achieve their life potential through the principles learned in the sport.
Dean Newby, coach at George Mitchell, said “Throughout the fortnight, students participate in mini-games to reinforce the skills gained.
“All students have an opportunity to put into practice the skills they have acquired by playing mini-tournaments, three on three games and competitions where prizes are given.”
The students received tuition from experienced, CRB-checked, England Basketball approved coaches, while at past camps, famous sports personalities including basketball champion Ronnie Baker have also helped out.
Jim Hogge, associate head coach for the girls’ programme, nominated 12-year-old Chiagoziem Nwosu as best improved female.
She said “It’s really fun and energetic. I feel really confident.”
One participant, John-John Davis, 13, added: “I love shooting, and it’s a great way to make new friends.”
