A Waltham Forest man became the envy of football fans everywhere after winning the chance to play on the hallowed turf of Wembley.
Andy Mortimer won a national competition on the Vauxhall Football Facebook page, earning the chance to play in a celebrity football fans fixture.
The teams involved were managed by England legends Luther Blissett and Peter Shilton, with former internationals Rob Lee and Ray Parlour captaining the two sides.
Referee at last year’s World Cup Final in South Africa, Howard Webb, took charge of the game.
The match was the first in a series of initiatives designed to engage with supporters after Vauxhall were announced the lead sponsor of all four Home Nations in January.
Mortimer said: “It isn’t every day that you play in a game where you are managed by an England legend, skippered by one of the best midfielders to play in the Premier League and refereed by the World Cup Final referee – it all seems like a bit of a dream really.”
Shilton said: “This was a great initiative by Vauxhall to offer real England fans the opportunity to play and experience what an amazing feeling it is running out at Wembley. “It was a great day and I really enjoyed myself,” the goalkeeping great added.
