Wanstead suffered a two-wicket defeat to Colchester and East Essex in the Premier Division on Saturday.

The side were put into bat after losing the toss and John Chambers hit an excellent knock of 91. Arfan Akram chipped in with 31 but Kishen Velani was the pick of their players hitting an unbeaten century (100 not out).

Maurice Chambers ended on ten not out as Wanstead posted a total of 267 for four.

Colchester were given a challenging target but they started off strongly with an unbeaten century partnership between their openers.

Joe Ellis-Grewal picked up three for 47 and Mohammed Fayyaz Khan returned four for 44 but Colchester were just able to claim the win, reaching the target for the loss of eight wickets in 49.5 overs.

South Woodford lost to Brentwood in their rain-affected match.

Brentwood managed a total of 193 for seven from 25 overs.

Amad Mirza claimed two for 35 and there was a wicket apiece for Matthew Quinn, Harry Short and Nick Browne.

South Woodford were set a target of 155 from 20 overs due to the weather.

Browne hit 26 and Joe Craddock top-scored with 30. Max Shirt added 29 but South Woodford disappointingly came up short as they finished on 136 for nine.

Loughton’s game with rivals Woodford Wells was abandoned due to the rain.

Hosts Loughton were put into bat and Mohammed Hafeez top-scored with 56 as they reached 130 for nine from 25 overs.

Andrew Richardson, Rehan Iqbal, Maruf Chowdhury and Rory Ellison each claimed two wickets for Woodford Wells.

In reply, Woodford reached 35 for one in 3.4 overs before the match came to a premature end. Rishabh Shah ended their brief innings on 20 not out.
