Woodford Green with Essex Ladies athlete Tiffany Porter missed out on a medal at the World Championships in Daegu as she finished fourth in the 100m hurdles final.
Porter, who represents Britain after she switched eligance from the USA last year, finished 16-hundredths of a second behind third place Dawn Harper and second place Danielle Curruthers.
The race was won by Sally Pearson whose time of 12.28 seconds secured Australia's first gold medal of the championships.
Speaking to BBC 5 Live, Olympic gold medalist Darren Campbell said: "The two Americans [ Harper and Curruthers] ran personal bests so she [Porter] would have had to have run faster than she had ever run before to get a medal.
“It was just too hot to handle but the beautiful thing was she tried to go all or nothing."
Porter, who was born in Michigan but has dual citizenship due to her London-born mother, won the third semi-final with a British record time of 12.56 seconds, taking 0.04secs off the time she set earlier this year.
