Aldersbrook Bowls Club rounded off a successful week with victory in the Cordell Cup Final.
The triumph in the final secured the club’s fourth victory in five matches throughout the week, which started with a loss against South Woodford.
Things began well for Aldersbrook as John Plunkett, Barbara Reed and Alfie Cooke won 19-14 to E Walker.
Fortunes were reversed for Joe Staggs’ team of Ron Seabrook, Eric Tonner and Chris Newman, who lost 19-14 to C Bennett, while Eddie Townsend’s rink of Janet Copp, Tony Hall and Brian Gediking lost a close-fought contest 19-18, a result which gave South Woodford the overall win.
On Tuesday evening in the Foresters triples league against Wanstead Central, the away team of Jerry Quy, Gordon Scrivener and Alan Stock drew 20-20 against Steve Walsh’s side.
There was success for Townsend’s side of John Plunkett and Gediking, who won 16-12 to Keith Lloyd’s team.
The rink of Staggs, Dave Lee and Tony Peak won 28-12 to R Anderson but Martin Plumb’s trio of Hall and John Williams lost 33-2 to Len Welton’s rink.
But Aldersbrook had done enough to win and finished with eight points to Wanstead’s seven.
On Friday evening at Wanstead, the group five of the two-wood semi-finals and finals were played.
Tony Ruston and Staggs had both avoided each other in the semis and met in the final,with Ruston coming out on top.
The following afternoon at home to Cranbrook in the IDL, Ruston’s team of Plunkett, Stan Copp and Chris Newman lost 20-18 to T Dearsley.
Staggs’ team of Bill Wiseman, Alan Stock and Steve Plastow won 23-10 against J Swinbourne, while Quy’s team of Janet Copp, Hall and Len Kerridge won 17-16 against THerbert’s rink.
The two wins secured another overall victory for Aldersbrook.
In the Cordell Cup Final, Townsend’s rink of Plunkett, Stock and Staggs started things off well for Aldersbrook as they came away with a 24-14 success against B Parsons’ rink.
Gary Gray’s trio of Plastow, Copp and Quy were also victorious as they dominated T Hatch’s rink 32-9.
Ruston’s rink of Hall, Bill Wiseman and Ian Foote could not match the earlier results as they slipped up 20-15 to R Hall but Aldersbrook had done enough and celebrated the cup win.
