Dagenham & Redbridge slightly eased their relegation fears as they claimed a 1-0 victory at Port Vale thanks to a Mickey Spillane strike.
In an even contest Dagenham scored the decisive goal on 65 minutes as Spillane headed home a Damien McCrory free-kick.
The home side did have a golden chance to level to game in the final ten minutes as Daggers debutant Charlie Wassmer was judged to have held Tom Pope in the area.
Vale captain Marc Richards took the spot kick but saw his effort well saved by Chris Lewington to secure the three points.
The win has moved John Still’s men into 19th position and they are now five points above the drop zone.
