There were medals galore for the Orion Harriers juniors at the Essex County Track and Field Championships, with the club winning eight golds, six silvers, five bronze and a host of personal bests.

Following on from her London mini-marathon success, first year Under-17 Georgia Tuckfield took the gold in both the 1500m and 3000m with two new personal bests of 4 mins 38.78 secs and 10.16.18 respectively. This also meant she broke two club records which had both stood since 2004.

UK Schools Games champion Jermaine Hamilton comfortably took the gold in the 100m final, with a county-best performance of 10.72.

His training partner, Kyal Palmer-Frances, was delighted with his performances which secured him gold in the Under-17 men’s 200m in a new personal best of 22.56 and bronze in the 100m (10.98).

Under-13 Sian Richifond ran a very comfortable heat and final to take the gold in the 150m sprint and silver in the 75m with two new personal bests of 20.15 and 10.55 respectively.

Under-13 Joss Foot competed in his first County championships and was delighted with his gold medal in the javelin (25.3m), while Isabella Hoy ran two personal bests of 2.29.26 and 4.00 in the 800m and the 1200m to claim gold and silver respectively.

Amy Richards took the gold in the 300m hurdles, with a 50.52 personal best, and reached the 100m final were she achieved another personal best of 13.06.

There were silver medals in the high jump for Under-17 Lizzie Peattie (1.60m) and Under-13 Jake Callis (1.25m).

Iris Maxfield was delighted to earn her first County silver medal in the hammer with a personal best of 25.93m and also achieved personal bests in the shot putt (7.08m), discus (20.24m) and javelin (13.69m).

First year Under-15 Ella Nicholson left her best leap until last to secure a bronze medal in the long jump (4.53m). She also went on to achieve a personal best in the 75m hurdles (13.04).

School Year 6 Emily Sharpe had her first experience in the County championships and was very pleased to win a bronze medal in the 800m (2.36) and also achieved personal bests in the 75m sprint (11.01) and 1200m (4.26).

Faiz Bapikee ran a good 400m and was very pleased with his bronze medal and a personal best of 52.51.

The following athletes achieved new personal bests in the 1500m and 800m - Ben Pattison 4.43 and 2.19, Daniel Richards 4.46 and 2.14, Joe Clark 5.29, George Hoy 4.30, James Inch 2.35.75, Nancy Callagher 2.39.52 - the latter also coming fourth in the 1200m final in 4.16.

Serena Espeute achieved two personal bests in the finals of the 200m (28.60) and 800m (2.26.34).

There were also personal bests in the 100m and 200m finals from Under-20 Roseanne Ampofo (12.54), Under-17 Kiera Paul-Jones (13.08), Under-15 Susan Omope (13.35 and 28.22) and Zoe Barracks (13.47).

In the longest track event of the County junior championships, the 3k, George Hoy and George Day both achieved personal bests of 9.44 and 10.44 respectively.

Natalie Kipps was delighted with her performance of 2.18 in the senior ladies 800m after a long year of injuries.

The club was also pleased to see Jack Stroud competing on the track again and he crossed the line in 4.04 in the 1500m final.
