Buckhurst Hill made their Premier League debut this week with an impressive win at early strugglers Ardleigh Green.
Being put into field first, Buckhurst Hill contained Argleigh Green from the start, with opening bowlers Josh Peters and Rob Petchy both picking up wickets. This was followed by a period of pressure in which Joe Slisz and youngster Sam Sullivan took three wickets apiece.
This put Buckhurst Hill in a fantastic position, having Ardleigh Green 175 all out.
Buckhurst started their reply positively, a quick single from ball one showing their intent. This was followed by a quickfire innings of 35 from skipper Russell Beckett and a cool 61 from Todd Astle. They were backed up by Ian Russell, batting against his old club, who scored an impressive 27.
However, a few quick wickets seemed to put the game back in the balance, but cool heads from Ed Buxton and Raymond Parkinson steered the Bucks home to their first win of their campaign. Buckhurst Hill Seconds were too strong for Ardleigh Green.
The side were once again asked to field in hot conditions, where Ardleigh Green made use of the good batting deck and some tired bodies posting 252 for five. This could have been a lot more if it wasn't for Daniel Platt's excellent second spell at the death.
Their reply got off to a solid start on 50 without loss before the skipper was stumped for 25. However this was the only blemish up until drinks where they reached 103 for one. Needing 150 in the final hour, Buckhurst still felt in the game, although a couple of quick wickets and a few tight overs meant the target was 100 off 12 overs.
This didn't faze Alex Maskell and Alan Dantes who combined big hitting with solid running between the wickets. Dantes eventually fell for an excellent 87. So it was down to Daniel Platt needing ten off the final over, but two fours off the first two balls allowed Hill to finish off with a ball to spare. Alan Dantes at the other end finished with 39 not out.
The batting yips of last week returned to haunt Buckhurst Hill Thirds as they lost away at Harlow by ten runs. Chasing a very reachable 193 to win on a good batting track, which was set up by some good fielding and four wickets from Ali Azad and three from newcomer Darren Ironside, the top order all got starts but failed to get the one big score that would have seen them home.
Lack of form and poor shot selection saw them eventually dismissed for 183, ten runs short of the target. They will hope to turn things around this coming weekend when they are away again to Leigh on Sea.
Buckhurst Hill Fourths won their first home game of the season at the High Road Ground against Harlow.
Ash Mohammed and Imran Anwar both picked up four wickets each while experienced opening batsman Naomal Wijesooriya hit 60 to chase down the target of 201.
