Walthamstow’s Lutalo Muhammad could miss out on a place at London 2012 after his nomination from GB Taekwondo was vetoed by the British Olympic Association (BOA).
Muhammad was put forward for inclusion ahead of fellow European Champion and soon-to-be world number one Aaron Cook, but the decision must now be reviewed.
Cook requested that the BOA reviewed GB Taekwondo’s decision not to nominate him.
He left the British programme last year and has since formed his own team of coaches and support staff.
Cook was beaten by Muhammad when the 20-year-old claimed German Open silver in March but had his revenge in the Dutch Open, one of nine tour titles he has attained in the last year.
But the Olympic Qualification Standards panel has refused to ratify Muhammad’s nomination.
A statement read: “It was the unanimous decision of the OQS Panel that it could not ratify the nomination.”
The panel have insisted both athletes receive equal, in-person representation in front of the Selection Committee and have also recommended that the BOA is present at the meeting.
