Former Dagenham & Redbridge youngster Adam Gemili became the fastest British junior sprinter ever, as he claimed gold in the World Junior Championships 100m in a time of 10.05.
It was a new personal best for the 18-year-old who overtook Dwain Chambers' British junior mark 10.06.
Gemili, who will compete at the Olympic Games for team GB, burst on to the athletics scene this year having decided to focus on the sport rather than football.
He only made the full-time commitment to athletics in January and ran a time of 10.08, enough for second place, at the Olympics trials.
He is the youngest member of the track and field squad selected for London 2012 and will compete in both the 100m and the 4x100m relay.
