Old Loughtonians’ Harry Martin came off the bench to net the winner for Team GB in a 3-1 victory over India in Santander on Saturday.

The clash was the first match in the squad’s final warm-up tournament ahead of the Olympic Games later this month.

Britain were made to work for the result though as India made the brighter start and established a third-minute lead.

A counter–attack move down the left side saw Tushar Khandker provide the cross which was deflected into the net by Shivendra Singh.

Britain responded though as Rob Moore forced Indian keeper Bharat Kumar Chetri into a clearance off the line but he was beaten with 17 minutes on the clock.

It was Surbiton’s James Tindall who did the damage as he struck with a loose ball from a penalty corner to level proceedings at 1-1 which is how it stood at the interval.

India were again on top after the restart but it was Britain who netted next to put themselves in control.

Ten minutes into the second period, a penalty stroke was awarded for a foul on Tindall which Ashley Jackson was able to convert.

Britain’s goalscoring duo were both handed temporary suspensions in the second period which put India on the front foot as they chased a way back into the contest.

They were awarded a penalty corner but were unable to convert and soon found themselves two goals down.

Martin emerged from the bench and with eight minutes remaining, the 20-year-old netted his third international goal to put the result beyond doubt.

The squad will now play tournament hosts Spain later tonight who they will also meet in their pool during London 2012.
