Harry Martin played a key role as Britain’s men’s hockey squad enjoyed the best possible preparation for London 2012 with victory at the tri-nations Olympic warm-up tournament in Santander.
The Old Loughtonians midfielder scored after coming on as a substitute in the opening match against India while he started the second contest against hosts Spain.
Both fixtures ended in victory for Britain to see them win the competition ahead of their Olympic opener against Argentina on Monday, July 30.
Success against Spain on Monday night came courtesy of first-half goals from Jonty Clarke and Barry Middleton.
The home side hit back through Pau Quemada before the interval but Britain were able to hold on and claim a 2-1 victory.
Saturday’s match against India saw Martin start from the bench but he emerged late on to have the final say in the contest.
After a bright start, India opened the scoring through Shivendra Singh but Britain responded and drew level when James Tindall struck with a loose ball from a penalty corner.
Ten minutes after the break, Ashley Jackson converted from a penalty stroke while Martin bagged his third international goal to secure a 3-1 victory late on.
Britain will hope to continue their good form on home soil when they are in action at the Riverbank Arena in the Olympic Park later this month.
As well as taking on Argentina and Monday’s opposition Spain in Pool A, Martin and the squad can look forward to tussles with Australia, Pakistan and South Africa as they hope to finish in the top two in order to progress to the semi finals.
