Loughton pair Beth Wild and Laura Boorman are presently part of a 13-strong Marylebone Cricket Club Women’s touring party in the Netherlands.

Wild is skippering the squad which travelled on Monday for the MCC’s third overseas tour of 2012.

The Loughton Cricket Club duo play for the club’s first XI in the ECB Women’s Southern Premier League, but this week are looking to take the challenge to the Dutch bowlers at the top of the MCC order.

The first fixture was played on Monday with the party – completed by MCC Women’s Playing Members from across the UK – back in action today (Thursday) and again on Saturday.

Tuesday’s contest saw them take on a KNCB (the national governing body for cricket in the Netherlands) ‘A’ side in a 45-over match, while today’s contest is a 50-over fixture against the full Dutch national women’s team.

Saturday’s action consists of two Twenty20 clashes while all of the fixtures are being played at Kampong Cricket Club in Utrecht.

The MCC players will also be delivering a special coaching session for local primary schools, under the guidance of fellow MCC squad member, and ECB Level Three cricket coach, Jennifer Laycock.

MCC Head of Cricket, John Stephenson, said: “I am really pleased that Beth and Laura have been selected for this tour, and I am certain that they will be great ambassadors for the Club.

“MCC is a strong supporter of women’s cricket, and is committed to developing the women’s game in the UK and across the world.”

MCC Women last toured the Netherlands in 2001 and have also toured Sri Lanka, the Channel Islands, Luxembourg and Trinidad & Tobago.

An MCC men’s tour party is currently playing in Canada, and MCC men’s teams will also be touring Italy and Tanzania in 2012.
