Andre Villas-Boas insists Spurs were never close to signing Lazio striker Miroslav Klose.
Klose, 34, could line up opposite Tottenham tomorrow night in the Europa League clash between the clubs and the legendary Germany striker claims he could have moved to London in the summer.
"Tottenham came looking for me, but I signed for Lazio until 2014 and I intend to respect that contract," he told Sportal.it.
Klose, who is only four goals behind Gerd Muller's Germany record of 68, would have made an interesting signing for Tottenham who were known to be hunting a striker even after they signed Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City.
But while Villas-Boas admitted he was offered the chance to sign Klose, he insists the club and the player were never close to a deal.
The Tottenham boss told Gazzetta dello Sport: "The player had been offered to us by the usual round of agents, but there was never any real negotiation.
"Klose is an important player, but I have very good strikers. With Defoe, Adebayor and Dempsey, I can feel comfortable."
