Despite having to use five Under-13 players to make up their team, Wanstead Under-14s recorded an impressive 31-19 victory over Romford & Gidea Park.
Wanstead started strongly and Morgan Cooper scored the first try of the game after a quickly-taken penalty.
Romford piled on the pressure and despite brave tackling from Daniel Moran, George Romano and James Frewin, the visitors eventually scored and made it 7-7.
Another tap penalty saw Morgan go over the line for the second time to give Wanstead a 12-7 lead at the break but within 15 minutes of the second half Romford hit back with a try of their own.
Both sides attacked and a try apiece - Kole Ducry going over for Wanstead - saw the scores locked at 19-19 with six minutes to play.
With the game in the balance Wanstead grasped the nettle and two late tries, from winger Khareem and Dave Paris, ensured a spirited 31-19 victory.
Wanstead Under-10s enjoyed similar success as they thrashed Romford 40-0.
Evelyn Weedon and Louis Freeman scored tries early on to set the tone before further scores in the second half from Brandon Smith (two), Harry Turner, Sam Castle, Cameron Richards and a second for Freeman put the visitors out of sight.
In the second match for the Under-10s Wanstead showed no signs of letting up, beating Romford 35-0.
Tries from Freeman and Castle put Wanstead in front at half time before second half tries from Harry Turner, Brandon Smith, another for Freeman and two more for Castle capped another impressive win.
Wanstead Under-8s won three out of their five matches at the Upminster Shaping the Game Festival on Sunday.
Despite two tries from Jamie and one each for Jamie and Simon, Wanstead were edged out 5-4 against Braintree in their first match.
But the team responded well in their next game as they beat Chingford 6-4. Harry scored two tries with Reece, Jasper, Jamie and new recruit Jeffrey all getting on the score sheet too.
In the closest match of the day, Wanstead lost out 7-6 to a well-organised Upminster team with Jamie (two), Jasper (two), Jeffrey and Reece going over the line.
Wanstead then notched their second victory of the day beating Brentwood 7-5 with scores from Jeffrey, Jasper (three), Jamie before Joseph bagged his first try of the season with a brilliant run.
The last match of the day saw Wanstead go out in style as they saw off Bishop Stortford 4-2 with two tries apiece from Jasper and Jamie.
