Eastern Avenue continued their strong start to the season as they beat Tottenham 6-3 in a thrilling nine-goal encounter on Saturday.
Both sides were cagey early on and although the best of the opening chances fell to Avenue it was the home side that scored first with a cross that caught the visitors short at the back and was swept into the roof of the net.
Tottenham’s lead lasted little more than a minute though as Ashleigh Lewis-Shodeinde equalised after she collected a ball through the middle, before Lewis-Shodeinde put the Herons ahead ten minutes later when she latched onto a perfectly weighted pass from Molly Rose.
Both teams stuck to their task and played some good football but it was Cortney Lowther who added to Eastern Avenue’s advantage just before half time, stroking the ball into the bottom corner to make it 3-1.
Eastern started the second half with the best spell of the match and they extended their lead when Ayse Yuksel converted with an excellent strike on the turn.
On top and playing with confidence, Avenue quickly added a fifth as Yuksel held off the Spurs defence and drove home after a delightful delivery from Georgia Owens.
Rose made it 6-1 with a crisp finish, before Tottenham pulled one back as a blocked shot looped up and over the Avenue keeper.
The home side kept fighting in the latter stages and were given further encouragement when some sloppy defending resulted in an own goal, but the result was never in doubt and Avenue ran out comfortable winners.
