Captain Nathan Clarke has called on their supporters to get behind the O's against Coventry City this weekend as they look to get their league campaign back on track.
Leyton Orient were booed off the pitch following their 2-0 home defeat to Colchester United on Tuesday night which was their fourth loss in the last five league games. Supporters also jeered David Mooney after the forward was brought on as a second-half substitute.
Clarke accepts the fans are within their right to vent their anger but believes the team need them on their side as they seek to turn their form around.
The former Huddersfield defender said: “It doesn’t help but they’re entitled to their opinion. I thought the players that came on changed the game for us. We ended up getting a little bit more creative movement. The fans are going to have their favourites and not like certain players but it's definitely a squad that we've got here that will really catapult us into the areas we need to be.
“The players coming off the bench need support and the players who were out there definitely need the supporters to really get behind us.
“We’ve got another home game on Saturday and we’ll be looking for a good crowd and a crowd that are going to get behind us from the start. Players out there don’t mean to make mistakes and misplace their passes. Things like that obviously disappoint the fans but they need to really stick with us and get behind us. The fans that travelled from Colchester really got behind their team and it spurred them on to want to do better and push on.”
Clarke spoke at the weekend of bouncing back from their defeat at Oldham and it was clear the skipper was frustrated after seeing his side fail to come away with a result at Brisbane Road.
The 29-year-old said: “Obviously we’re massively disappointed again to concede the two goals. It’s frustrating again for the management, players and fans. We were looking, especially with it being a home game, to push on and make this a fortress and unfortunately we’ve come out on the wrong end of a bad result.
“It’s not just down to individuals. It’s the team that's lacking [goals] but certainly in training the midfielders and strikers are looking nice and sharp. They’re staying behind doing extra finishing so it’s not for the want of trying. Things just don’t seem to be dropping our way and we quickly need to reverse that.”
Coventry City are the visitors to East London on Saturday and the Sky Blues are currently sitting in the bottom four of League One. Clarke knows the importance of putting clear distance between the O's and sides below them in the table.
He said: “It’s massively important against Coventry. We don’t want to be looking back at the end of the season and letting games slip by us. We need to take a stand now and really push forward and get these bad results out of the way. We’ll look at them on the DVD and improve on what we can do better.”
