Leyton Orient left it late as they struck twice to pinch a 2-0 win at Gloucester City in the FA Cup this evening.

Orient appeared to be heading for a replay against the Conference North side but David Mooney broke the deadlock with an 87th minute header.

The visitors quickly added a second goal through Dean Cox which ensured Orient booked a trip to Alfreton Town in the next round.

The O's made four changes from the side which defeated Shrewsbury Town at the weekend. Mathieu Baudry started in defence ahead of Ben Chorley while Cox and Anthony Griffith replaced Lee Cook and Martin Rowlands.

Goalscorer Kevin Lisbie had to settle for a place on the bench with striker Ryan Brunt getting another opportunity in attack.

Orient had a major scare after just one minute when Darren Edwards' strike was cleared off the line by Jimmy Smith.

It took the League One side 16 minutes for their first effort on goal but Cox's strike floated wide of the post.

The visitors were starting to offer a threat going forward and came close with an effort from Brunt but it hit the side netting.

Mooney launched a long-range strike but his effort rose well over the top of Mike Green's crossbar.

Orient ended the half strongly with Cox's shot tipped round the post by Green. From the corner Brunt headed against the upright.

Mooney also came close with his lob which was saved by the home keeper as Gloucester came under the first decent spell of pressure.

The O's made two changes around the hour mark as Russell Slade tried to find a winner. Lisbie was introduced for Brunt while Leon McSweeney replaced Moses Odubajo.

There was a real lack of quality from either side and with less than 20 minutes remaining the match appeared to be heading for a replay.

Lisbie had a chance from a header but the former Charlton striker could not direct his effort on target.

Slade made his final change late on with Rowlands brought on in place of Smith.

The O's opened the scoring in the 87th minute, which did not look on the cards, when Cox's cross was headed home by Mooney.

Within a minute the visitors had sealed their place in the next round when Cox raced through and fired into the net.
