What a difference a fortnight makes.
Four straight league wins and victory in the FA Cup too. Everyone has a smile on their face and the doom and gloom merchants once again have to bite their tongues, at least until our next defeat. When will people learn that football is all about ups and downs and when your team is down that is exactly when it needs your support not abuse.
The vast majority of supporters stuck with us during our sticky patch and they can now enjoy the current upturn in form. The players have been terrific, our defence is one of the tightest in the division and we are starting to tuck away the chances that we have been creating all season, long may it continue.
We are on cup duty this weekend and if we can overcome Alfreton we might get one of the big teams and then the season really has a different look to it.
In the Johnstone's Paint Trophy we have a tricky away tie at Northhampton next week. It's another game not to be taken lightly but if we come out on top there then the scent of Wembley is in the air. This competition has taken some stick in the past but it is important to League One and Two clubs. An appearance in the final would be a real shot in the arm for this club so let's keep our fingers crossed that our squad stays reasonably clear of injuries and suspensions.
One of the reasons for our current good run is that we have a fairly settled side certainly compared to last year and players who do come into the team are fitting in straight away. The squad certainly has a bit of depth to it and character too. To turn four straight defeats into five straight victories speaks volumes for them and for Russell Slade and his staff, they all deserve our support.
Over the years the club have produced various ticket initiatives to boost attendances. Up until now they have often coincided with a downturn in form but at the moment we are in the middle of a ticket deal when the results are terrific so come along and take advantage of it.
For the next three home games, Scunthorpe on December 15, Swindon on Boxing Day and Walsall on December 29, ticket prices are reduced as follows. There will be £5 off all adult tickets and £3 off all concessions. You can either pop along to the club during office hours or book online at www.lofcshop.com. 0871 310 1883 is the club number if you would rather do it over the phone. The club also operates a cash turnstile in the East and South stands on match days but it is cheaper to get your tickets in advance.
It means normal adult tickets for the North and South stand are £16 and East and West stand tickets are £18. These prices rise by £2 if you buy on the day. Concessions are £11 or £12 on the day.
Hopefully we can keep our good run going over the festive period and if you have not been to Brisbane Road yet this season we look forward to seeing you soon. I also hear a rumour that the Supporters Club in Oliver Road is well worth a visit both before and after the game for a decent pint and good company.
Look forward to seeing you in there,
Up the O's
