Six consecutive wins were looking extremely unlikely after the O’s were torn apart by a plucky team two divisions below us in the first 20 minutes of what was an entertaining FA Cup tie.

But, once we had settled and the goals literally started to flow, we booked an away day on Humberside – not the most attractive of ties – but somewhere we haven’t visited for some seasons – so it may well be a new ground for many of our current travelling faithful.

It probably showed the sign of a good team that we could afford to have such a slow start and then come good in the end.

Probably a similar thing happened against Gloucester in the first round; however, they hadn’t scored by the time we conceded at Alfreton, and Sunday’s opponents were miles better than those we face at Cheltenham.

We must be grateful that our strikers are on fire at the moment and it is pleasing that David Mooney – now a regular starter – is finding the net at the moment.

But, once again it was that man Kevin Lisbie who was proving to be a thorn in the opposing defence’s side with his mere presence and that was and has been the catalyst for the good run we are now enjoying – and long may it continue.

At least we ultimately avoided a potential banana skin on a weekend when only Crewe were giant-killed by a lower division club.

The Impact Arena – aka North Street – was anything but an ‘arena’ – rather ramshackled – but suitable for the level our opponents usually ply their trade. This is in stark contrast to the stadium we will be visiting in the first week of the New Year – but nonetheless intimidating.

So, despite our slow start and the carrot of a third round trip to higher division opposition – perhaps not a massive pay-day – we came away unscathed and can go into the next week’s games full of confidence.
