Russell Slade insists rising star Moses Odubajo is “not going anywhere” and will shortly sign a new contract with Leyton Orient.
The teenage winger has emerged as one of the O’s key players this season after breaking into the first team and the 19-year-old’s form has reportedly attracted the interest of Celtic and Ipswich Town.
Odubajo’s contract expires this summer but the Orient manager is determined to keep the versatile youngster at Brisbane Road and expects to him agree a new deal imminently.
Slade said: “He’s [Odubajo] a Leyton Orient player and he’s doing well for us. There is always going to be interest in your young talented players as there was with Ryan Allsop. Mo’s not going anywhere. We’re trying our best to build a football club here and that's what we intend to do. He’s not signed it yet but we’re hopeful that he will this week.”
The transfer window closes this evening and the O’s boss does not expect to be too busy.
Slade is content with the squad he has but is still keen to bring in another attacker who is available for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final with Southend United. His options are limited in the competition because Charlie MacDonald and Ade Azeez are both cup-tied, while Kevin Lisbie is still recovering from his hamstring injury.
When asked about possible transfer activity today, Slade replied: “Probably not but it depends. There might be a little last-minute rush just like the Christmas sales. You never know but I’m really happy with the squad.
“I think maybe a forward thinking player would be good for us, to give us a few more options, but otherwise I’m really pleased with the group.”
