Orient boss Russell Slade remains confident the club will agree new contracts with Romain Vincelot and David Mooney.
The O’s opened discussions with the pair a couple of weeks ago and both have yet to confirm their futures at Brisbane Road. But the manager insists the delay has only been caused by the versatile midfielder Vincelot and striker Mooney being on holiday and he expects them to agree terms shortly.
Slade, who has already agreed a new contract with defender Elliot Omozusi, said: “It is inevitable that it can go quiet at this time of year because the players go away on holiday. Romain is currently in the south of France but we are in contact with his agent and we are getting closer to a deal, although as yet it’s not finalised.
“Again we are close with Mooney, but he also went away on holiday on Monday. It does get a little bit messy with people being away but we remain very confident about agreeing contracts.”
Orient have been linked with a move for Barnet winger Ricky Holmes.
The 25-year-old has been out since February with an ankle injury which required surgery and his contract is due to expire this summer. Slade has confirmed he is interested in the attacker as the O’s look to strengthen their squad.
He said: “Ricky Holmes has been injured but he is someone who is on our radar. There is a list of strikers and midfielders we’re looking at but not so much in defence because we’ve got plenty of cover there.”
Two players who spent the second half of last season away from East London were midfielder Anthony Griffith and striker Michael Symes.
Griffith returned to Port Vale while Symes made a loan move to Burton Albion. Both clubs have expressed an interest, particularly Port Vale, in signing the players on permanent deals this summer.
