How many of you out there were expecting the worst after two consecutive league draws?

I am perhaps one of them, but more than happy that we got back to winning ways against an always dangerous football side in MK Dons.

You have to cast your mind back to just under two years - and the wretched patch of form we were going through and those same visitors trounced us by three goals without reply in a Boxing Day drubbing.

And - again - I make no apology for harking back to difficult times of old as this current squad continue to go against the grain. And, add to that resilience, the will to never accept defeat, no little skill and the desire - all facets that have seen us land up where we are now. Suffice to say on an emotional day at E10, the late Laurie Cunningham would have been proud of this current group.

However, at 1-0 down to a Patrick Bamford screamer, there seemed to be a certain air of familiarity about the scoreline. But, unlike previous seasons we were patient and decisively, the luck, for once was with us when it took a mistake that ultimately paved the way for our ninth win of the season.

Yes, nine wins and we are barely into October! Is this really happening? Yes, it is the luck, not for the first time this season admittedly, that was with us as MK hit the bar late on.

There are bound to be milestones reached and turning points in a season, in whatever position you find yourself in the league table. We have already ticked off our first away and then home win of the season, cemented top spot and now - hopefully - embarked on a winning run that could take us into an almost stellar location.

But, Tranmere is next up and everyone knows when you’re at the top of the tree they all want to shoot you down.

And, Rovers’s current form - not to put it too mildly - could do with improvement and they still find themselves in the drop zone despite toppling Bradford City on Sunday on their own patch. So, they will be desperate to make it back-to-back wins at a ground where we have experienced mixed fortunes over the years.

Like in 2006 when Glenn Morris was caught out by their keeper’s long free-kick and letting it bounce over his head into the net. Add to that last season’s opening day drubbing - but as long as we go there in a positive frame of mind, whilst obviously not being too over-confident, then our form might well see us home to another win on the road.
