Kevin Lisbie insists Leyton Orient winger Moses Odubajo can “go all the way” in his career.

Odubajo has emerged as one of the club’s most prized assets after becoming a first-team regular at Brisbane Road over the last 18 months.

Odubajo has already matched last season’s total of three goals, after scoring during Saturday’s MK Dons win, and Lisbie believes there is no limit to what the 20-year-old can achieve.

Lisbie said: “Mo can be as good as he wants. It’s down to him. If he listens and pays attention and keeps on playing he can go all the way.

“I’m sure there are a lot of people looking at him because, for me, he is one of the best young players around. He’s one of the best 20 year olds I’ve seen. He’s physical and he’s had to handle this league where a lot of the young boys wouldn’t be able to handle League One. He seems to handle it. Last year he was decent but this year he’s even better.”

Odubajo has had to come through the personal trauma of losing his mother and also overcome the disappointment of initially missing out on an Orient scholarship. Lisbie has acted as a mentor to the young attacker and insists he is always happy to offer him advice.

Lisbie said: “I’m sure one day I’m going to try and jump on his back because he’s going all the way. It’s not even just on football. If you know Mo he’s such a good lad. He’s had a hard time in his life and he’s making something of himself.

“I’m quite close with Mo and any time he needs some advice he calls me. He’s called me a few times seeking advice and he’s one of those young boys you just want to hold and take care of. He’s had some bad times but he seems to put that behind him when he plays and he’s a good lad.”

Lisbie had the chance to join Sheffield United during the middle of last season but the 34-year-old opted to sign a new contract with Orient.

The Blades only offered the striker a short-term deal and Lisbie is adamant he made the right decision to stay at Brisbane Road.

He said: “I’m more than happy to be here. They [Sheffield United] only offered me a contract until January so I would be out of contract in two months time. Instead I’m here scoring goals and playing for a club that I love.”

Orient used Saturday’s game to celebrate the life and career of Laurie Cunningham. The legendary winger made his debut for the club 39 years ago and the O’s honoured Cunningham by unveiling a Nubian Jak Community Trust Blue Plaque in the stadium.

Lisbie said: “I’ve not seen him play but I’ve heard a lot about him. From what I’ve heard he is a very important person and player to this club. On the day we were paying tribute, to score the winner in front of the biggest crowd, it was a good day.

“You can’t write these things, can you? It was a great finish by Mo and he had his shirt on. I’m sure if Mo stays here he will be a legend as well,” the striker added.
