League One leaders Leyton Orient's unbeaten start to the season came to an end after a 3-1 defeat at Coventry City tonight.

Russell Slade's side have made a magnificent start to the campaign after ten wins from their first 12 games but this run came to a halt in Northampton at after City picked up a deserved victory.

The hosts took the lead after a stunning strike from Carl Baker but the O's missed the chance to equalise when David Mooney's penalty was saved by Joe Murphy.

Coventry made it 2-0 after another spectacular finish when Franck Moussa brilliantly lobbed the ball into the net and Leon Clarke's header sealed the first defeat of the season for Orient before a late consolation from Yohann Lasimant.

The O's were forced to leave out top scorer Kevin Lisbie due to the knock he picked up at Tranmere Rovers on Saturday. Shaun Batt replaced him while QPR loanee Frankie Sutherland was named on the bench after signing yesterday.

Coventry opened the scoring with the first moment of quality in the tenth minute. Captain Baker picked up the ball on the right, cut inside and unleashed a superb strike into the corner of Jamie Jones' net.

The hosts nearly doubled their lead when Callum Wilson raced through on goal but his effort was well saved by Jones' legs.

Orient mustered their first shot on goal when Mooney laid the ball off to Dean Cox but his shot lacked power and was easily saved.

City again threatened through Wilson but his fierce strike was parried by Jones as the O's were relieved to avoid conceded a second goal.

The home side were still looking the more dangerous side and Baker fired in another effort from distance but it was just over the bar.

Coventry again went close to adding a second goal at the start of the second half as they hit Orient on the break but Wilson's low strike was blocked by Jones.

The visitors were handed a chance to equalise after Batt was brought down by Jordan Willis and the referee pointed to the spot. But Mooney, who hit the post at Tranmere, saw his penalty saved by Murphy.

Coventry doubled their lead midway through the second half when Moussa picked up the ball and produced a superb lob over Jones and into the net.

Slade made a couple of changes in an attempt to get back in the match with Jayden Stockley and Lasimant replacing Batt and Mooney.

The Sky Blues ended the contest with less than 15 minutes remaining when Leon Clarke headed in Baker's free-kick.

Orient netted a late consolation when Lasimant tucked away his first goal for the club after a scramble in the area.

Although it was a disappointing evening for the O's, they at least had the consolation of remaining top of the table after Peterborough's failure to beat Sheffield United.
