Josh Koroma says his first goal against AFC Fylde was one of the best of his career after helping Leyton Orient earn a 3-1 win at Mill Farm.
The 19-year-old put the O’s back in front mid-way through the first half as he picked up the ball on the left, before skilfully gliding past two Fylde defenders and curling a fine effort into the top corner.
He doubled his tally for the afternoon five minutes after the restart when he curled past Jay Lynch after good work from Macauley Bonne.
Those strikes took the academy graduate’s tally to five in what has been an impressive start to the campaign from Koroma, who is just one goal away from equalling his total from last season.
The versatile Orient forward has been one of the main success stories during Justin Edinburgh’s time in charge at Brisbane Road, with the 19-year-old going from a role as an impact substitute to one of the first names on the team-sheet.
Despite naturally being a winger, Koroma has been moved further forward by Edinburgh since April and that move has certainly had the desired effect, with the academy graduate taking his excellent pre-season form into the early weeks of the campaign.
His pace and ability has enabled him to become one of the brightest young talents in the National League, with the 19-year-old being rewarded for his fine form with an England C call-up earlier this year.
Koroma is now hoping to build on his promising start in front of goal and was delighted to help the O’s secure a vital three points at Mill Farm on Saturday, a result which moved the East London side up to second place in the table.
Speaking to Leyton Orient’s website, he said: “All the boys are buzzing because we got the three points against a tough AFC Fylde team. I’m obviously delighted to get two goals because I haven’t been scoring much recently but I would’ve been happy if it was Macca [Macauley Bonne] who got a hat-trick and we won 3-1. The main thing was the three points.
“I squared up the defender in the box, used my body movement to get past him and then literally just toe poked it and it went in. I was delighted. It was cerrtainly one of the better goals I’ve scored so far in my career, hopefully, I get many more.
"The times that we got the goals were very good, one right at the start of the game which kind of settled everyone, then one just before half-time which I think saw them off. Macauley has done very well with his chance and I’ve taken my two well. (They were) good finishes all around.”
