Leyton Orient have been boosted by the news that Charlie Lee’s injury is not as serious as first feared, with the midfielder only set to be ruled out for two or three weeks.
The 31-year-old limped off inside the first ten minutes during Saturday’s 3-1 win over AFC Fylde and head coach Justin Edinburgh initially feared that the former Stevenage man had injured the same leg as last season, which could have kept him out of action for a substantial period of time.
But those fears have now been allayed, with the O’s confirming that Lee has instead suffered a grade 1 MCL injury on the opposite leg to the one he damaged last season, ruling him out of action for two or three weeks.
Lee moved to Brisbane Road in July 2017 but his first season in East London was marred by injury, with the 31-year-old rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in training last August, practically ruling him out for the entire campaign.
He did, however, feature in the O’s last three games last season and he has made up for lost time in East London this campaign, becoming one of the club’s most consistent performers alongside Craig Clay in midfield.
Lee has scored twice in 19 appearances for the O’s this season, which included a stunning strike against Havant and Waterlooville from 20 yards.
