Ross Embleton insists Leyton Orient have made the most of having a two-week break between competitive fixtures ahead of tomorrow's meeting with Bromley.
An early exit from the FA Cup ensured the O’s didn’t play last weekend and will come into the game at the Breyer Group Stadium feeling refreshed.
For Embleton and the rest of Justin Edinburgh’s coaching staff, the break from action presented a rare chance to take a more in-depth look at tomorrow’s opposition.
“We have had a good amount of time to assess them because we didn’t have a game to concentrate on over the weekend,” Embleton said.
“The gaffer went to watch them and we had a chance to look at them as a staff. We don’t normally get to do that and we have to rely on reports.
“Without speaking ill of anyone, we would like to think that will give us a good chance of getting a positive result and winning the game.”
Orient have by no means used the time without a match as an excuse to take their foot off the gas and Embleton says last week consisted of intense training.
The club have also endeavoured to maintain match fitness with a behind-closed-doors friendly against Bristol City.
A Orient XI which included a number of first-team names went down to a 2-1 defeat which saw Hector Kyprianou find the net for the O’s.
The result was largely secondary to a game which was used to keep fitness levels up after failing to make the first round of the FA Cup.
Embleton says missing out on an extended run in the cup remains a disappointment and the Orient players are frustrated not to have featured.
“The players would all rather have had a game this weekend than not. It is important to remember that it was disappointing not to be involved in the FA Cup,” the assistant coach said.
“We would rather have been in it but we are trying to look at the positives of not being in it and the vital work we have been able to do because of that.
“We wanted to make sure this is a two-week period we look back on and it is really important to us. The players had to know it was working weeks.
“It is not two weeks off and a chance to relax. If you want to do well in any league, in any walk of life, it is about putting in consistent work week in, week out.”
Victory tomorrow would take Orient top should Wrexham fail to pick up a win against Maidstone United.
