ORIENT defender Aiden Palmer claims he is more worried about helping the club secure promotion than discussing his new contract.

The 20-year-old full-back made his 20th appearance of the season at Brighton last weekend that triggered a clause in his current deal to automatically secure him a one year extension on his contract.

But while Palmer would like to get his future at the club sorted, he only really has eyes on helping the O's secure back-to-back home wins over Huddersfield (Saturday) and Swindon (Tuesday) this week.

He said: "It is great to get to the 20 game mark, because for the last few seasons I've not even made it to ten appearances. Hopefully now I can go on an break the 30 game mark as well.

"The gaffer hasn't said anything to me about my new contract yet, and hopefully it wont be too long before he does because I want to get my future at the club sorted because I love it here at Orient.

"But at the moment my main worry is just concentrating on my football and hopefully help the club secure promotion this season.

"We have got two massive home games coming up now and I think if we can win them we can get back into the play-off places.

"Then it is up to us to push on from there. I know when we got promoted from League Two what a great feeling it was, but to get promoted to the Championship with Orient would be amazing."

And manager Martin Ling has been pleased to see Palmer come of age this season and step out of the shadows of predecessor and O's legend Matt Lockwood.

He said: "Aiden has had a fantastic season for us and he has really started to come of age.

"Before he was only really seen as Matt Lockwood's understudy, but now he has become a player in his own rights.

"Both Aiden and Charlie Daniels, who have fallen in at left-back this season have done extremely well for young players and have played about the same amount of games as each other.

"The pair of them can only continue to get back, and I'm really happy for Aiden that we will be sitting down soon to sort out his new contract."
