Leyton Orient 0 Hudderfield Town 1 (League One) SECOND half Huddersfield sub Luke Beckett's clinical finish all but ended Orient's faint play-off hopes.
In a first half lacking of real goal chances the visitors carved out the first opening on seven minutes, but Phil Jevons couldn't keep his header on target from Malvin Kamara's cross.
At the other end O's striker Jabo Ibehre worked his way across the edge of the box from the right, but his resulting shot was tame and easily dealt with by Matt Glennon.
The Terriers came within a whisker of breaking the deadlock on 12 minutes. The lively Kamara once again made space for himself down the right and his measured cross was only just glanced the wrong side of the far post by an onrushing Jevons.
Ten minutes later Kamara decided to shoot himself from the right, but keeper Glenn Morris comfortably saved his low effort.
Orient finally created their first real threat on the stroke of half time. A quick break ended with Wayne Gray freeing Jason Demetriou down the left, from where he cut inside and let fly with a curling effort that flew just wide.
Demetriou then had a shot from the right that also failed to hit the target, when he would possibly have been better crossing for an unmarked Gray.
The first chance of the second period fell to host on 52 minutes. Ibehre got in down the right, before cutting it back to the edge of the area for Demetriou, who let fly with a powerful shot that Glennon did well to parry to safety.
A foul on Nathan Clarke then presented Huddersfield with a free-kick in a dangerous position, but Robbie Williams failed to find the power to trouble Morris on 57.
Two minute later and Williams let fly with a screamer from 20 yards, but it was straight at Morris.
Demetriou again went close for the Londoners on 61 minutes with a 25-yard shot from the left that was deflected just wide.
Williams continued to be Town's biggest threat going forward, but his powerful effort from distance was again straight at Morris on 65 minutes.
JJ Melligan broke well down the left for Orient on 70 minutes, before cutting the ball back for fellow sub Adam Boyd he couldn't keep his shot on target.
Kamara again caused the hosts trouble down the left and his dangerous ball across the box was met by a glancing Beckett header that flew just wide.
Beckett was however in the right place at the right time to clinically smash home Andy Booth's low cross from the right from inside the six yard box on 77 minutes.
Martin Ling's men were almost level on 79 minutes. Adam Chambers burst forward down the right, but while his shot got past Glennon, Clarke was on hand to clear the danger off the line.
Orient continued to press for an equaliser and it needed a good save from Glennon to keep out Ibehre's shot on 86 minutes, following a neat lay off from Boyd.
Orient: Morris; Purches (Melligan 68), Thelwell, Saah, Palmer, Thornton (Barcham 80), Terry, Chambers, Demetriou; Gray (Boyd 64), Ibehre. Unused: Nelson (GK), Daniels.
