In his lastest fan blog, Pandamonium editor and O's supporter Mat Roper gives us his slant on all things Leyton Orient.
Over for another year? That's the general consensus of opinion after Saturday's crushing defeat by Huddersfield, and even I now have to tend to agree.
Of course, until that phrase "It's mathematically impossible", actually becomes true we can still believe but the form, the results and the general lack of confidence amongst the team and the fans means it's probably a third season in the third tier.
I had three really good conversations with other O's stalwarts on Saturday and we all were very frustrated O's fans.
What was strange was that the years of dross this club served up (and we had all watched between us) was less depressing than this year, and that's all because the expectation level was raised to such a high, when we found ourselves in the top two for practically the first three months of the season - and 75 per cent of that, we sat top of the tree.
What was worrying though was when we spoke about what would have happened if we hadn't had such a great start - would we now be in a relegation battle?
That could be quite true, but luckily enough we are not, so I am not about to start being a doom and gloom merchant and talk about the fears and troubles of returning to the basement.
For me personally, I have one major concern. It's not about why we didn't spend, it's not about are we good enough ornot about is Lingy the right man for the job?
Clearly, to me and others I would think, it is the complete change around in form. All teams have good and bad patches throughout a season whether you finish top, middle or bottom (sorry I sound like Barrymore!) but it's the startling lack of victories that has been concerning.
How can the same personnel be one of the best sides (if not the best side) in the division, then come January 1st, become one of the worst.
Is it tiredness? Is it they fooled everyone into thinking we were actually not that good? It is fitness? Were we lucky? Are we unlucky?
I could go on forever and a day looking for reasons, or excuses and most football fans (although none of us are experts) could probably find good reason to cite any one or more of these as to why we have suddenly become so poor.
I still desperately think we need two new wingers - to me that would be the biggest addition in terms of signings, and possibly looking at a solid goalkeeper.
Confidence plays a big factor, that's for sure, and with good positive signings over the summer and a good start again next year, then I think we can certainly challenge again.
Everyone has talked about improvement, and Ling will do that again.
If you follow form/sequences etc then next year should see us about top four, and I am sure we'll all settle for that.
Perhaps what we wont settle for is that this season peters out into a real damp squib.
The play-off dream is fading fast (gone already to most pessimistic Orient regulars - and who can blame though I suppose), but what cannot be allowed is for us to end up finishing below 12th, or even outside the top ten.
That apathy and end of season failure will do nothing for the O's squad over the summer, unless you then hope it galvanises them to really go for it next term.
So, it's Swindon tomorrow - a game that could have really been exciting had we won on Saturday (yet again Tranmere and Walsall gave us the opportunity to catch up) but now we face a real struggle to draw in the fans and raise a big smile come 9.30pm.
Lets just hope we do finally get three points and follow that up with a derby win on Saturday. Then, just then, you never know but in this strange game they call football (just look at the FA Cup) we mighty all be suddenly thinking again about a big run and just sneaking in on the last day of the season.
PANDA - New issue was out on Saturday and will be on sale again on Tuesday. Outside the West Stand before the game, inside the ground at half time throughout the West and South Stand - Usual price £1, all the regular features and a sort of admission from David Elleray that he was wrong about the Brentford game in 1991!
