LEYTON ORIENT ADAM Boyd will be gunning for Leeds this weekend as he looks to move a step closer to becoming the first Orient striker since Carl Griffiths to score 20 goals in a season.
The former Hartlepool and Luton frontman, who netted his 16th of the campaign at Port Vale on Saturday is now a step closer to the achievement reached by Griffiths a decade ago.
And Boyd appears extra keen to score this weekend, as he claims he still can't forget having his perfectly good goal at Elland Road chalked off earlier in the season by bungling referee Nigel Miller.
He said: "There is only five games to go before the end of the season, but I'm confident that I can get those final four goals.
"I need to get on a little roll to do it and hopefully I can keep it going against Leeds on Saturday.
"Of course I can't forget the goal up there earlier in the season, especially as the two extra points would've still probably kept us in the play-off race. I can't say I want revenge over Leeds because it wasn't their fault that we didn't get the win, that was down to the ref.
"But I still want to beat them even if that does hamper their own play-off chances, because we want to win the game especially for the fans. We've let them down in recent weeks and as the game is a sell-out on Saturday it would be nice to put on a performance for them.
"I also want a goal, but only because it would move me a step closer to that 20 mark."
And while you would think it would be some personal achievement for Boyd to hit that landmark, he claims he feels a bit disappointed he isn't already there.
He continued: "I don't know how much of an achievement it will be because if I'm honest the lads have created plenty of chances for the strikers and really I should have had 20 already.
"Obviously the missed penalty against Walsall and the goal at Leeds spring to mind, but I've also missed some good chances as well.
"But my target at the start of the season was 20, and having not played much football for the last two years because of injury at Hartlepool and a lack of chances at Luton it is good to come back in this way.Hopefully it will be a good stepping stone for next season and I can come back even stronger next time."
