The death of Jade Goody was a terrible thing. I did see her out and about, and she was as good as gold, and looked like a really decent girl. It must be a devastating thing for her family, and it's so sad to see someone as young as she pass away. My heart goes out to them at this time.
On to football matters, and I'm pleased to see England will be taking some players in the Slovakia team that I played against for Cyprus. It makes my recent trip to play in that Cyprus tournament even more special. We'd like the chance to boss the England midfield, but the England players are so good that I don't think they need any advice from me. After seeing Gerrard play outstandingly for Liverpool on Sunday against Villa, you can see they are in a different league. If the boys just get their heads down and let their quality show I've no doubt that they'll be alright on the night.
Unfortunately, a passport admin problem means I won't be able to play the next two games against Bulgaria and Georgia. But hopefully they will be games that Cyprus can get done and out of the way, before the Italy and Republic of Ireland matches. It does mean that I'm available for Saturday's game against Oldham and that is more important at the moment.
The result against Walsall was very disappointing because the start we made was the best half-hour of football we've played, but we got nothing out of it. We were unfortunate to go behind, but we could've gone behind earlier, but for Jonesy (jamie Jones) making saves. We need to capitalise on what we make for ourselves. We had a lot of opportunities but got nothing from the game, so we need to be a bit more clinical, because without being big-headed, we are a much better side than them on our day. They're a good side, but, after looking at the video of the match on Monday, it's clear we had some clear-cut chances.
Looking ahead, the games at Millwall and against Leeds stand out. The New Den can be quite an intimidating place, while Leeds are a massive club. But they're in this league with us, so that means we don't see them necessarily as a bigger side.
We won three on the trot the other week, and we weren't complacent against Walsall. That's just football for you. Now we want to get back to winning ways against Oldham and hopefully get the three points off them, instead of just the one we took from their place last time.
