IT LOOKS set to be a busy summer at Leyton Orient after nearly half of the playing squad was culled at the weekend.

Boss Geraint Williams spent the Bank Holiday in face-to-face talks with each player.

Top scorer Adam Boyd is one of 13 players, including loanees, who exited the Matchroom Stadium.

He has gone back to his native Hartlepool United for an undisclosed five-figure sum.

Other strikers who have departed are on-loan Simon Church, who returns to Reading, and Wayne Gray, who has been released.

But hit-man Scott McGleish has the chance to make his loan move from Wycombe Wanderers permanent. He scored five goals after arriving in February.

The 35-year-old has spoken publicly of his desire to stay at the club.

Williams has offered contracts to midfielders Sean Thornton and Loick Pires, and also to defender Andrew Cave-Brown.

They and McGleish are the only four players now out of contract who have been offered futures at Orient.

They have one month to sign or decline.

But there is no deal for on-loan midfielder Dean Morgan, even though he scored the goal which earned a point against Huddersfield United in the last game of the season, and has said he wanted to stay.

Fellow midfielder Jimmy Smith returns to Chelsea.

Defender Jordan Spence makes the short trip home to West Ham United.

Also released by Williams are holding midfielder Paul Terry, injury-prone defender Alton Thelwell, Danny Granville, Brian Saah, Solomon Shields, Aiden Palmer, Bradley Gray.

Times are tight at the Matchroom Stadium and Williams will have to make a small budget go a long way.

Between seven and nine new arrivals are expected during the summer.
