IT MAY be the off-season at Leyton Orient but there is plenty of activity for a few of the club’s stand-out players.
The final whistle has blown on the League One campaign, but it looks set to be busy summer for midfielder Jason Demetriou.
He has been picked to play for Cyprus in world cup qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Tamika Mkandawire has moved to scotch speculation that he could de-camp to another club.
The 25-year-old defender has just be awarded the title of player of the year, and players’ player of the year.
Alongside Demetriou, Makandawire is one of Orient’s most bankable assets.
Talking about his international call-up to the Cyprus squad to face Montenegro on June 6, Demetriou said: "It's an honour to be called up to the Cyprus squad again, especially as it is for a competitive game this time.
"It's everyone's dream to play in World Cup games and you don't get a bigger stage than that, so I'm really looking forward to it.
"The games come a little while after the season ended for us, but it won't be a problem as we have a week's training before the Canada game and then another week before we play Montenegro.
"It means my summer break will be a bit shorter this year, but I don't mind because playing international football is a fantastic experience."
Elsewhere, speculation in the national press has linked Mkandawire with a move to MK Dons.
This week he told the Guardian where he sees himself next season.
“I’ve not heard anything (about transfer rumours) and I’m contracted at Orient for another year so I’m expecting to be at Orient next season” he said.
